Chess Pi - Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Chess Pi (the "Application"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Application.

2. Description of Service

Chess Pi is a web-based chess application that provides users with:

• Chess against a built-in engine at multiple difficulty levels, each with its own time control
• Multiple board themes, piece sets, and bot personalities
• Game assistance features including hints, undo moves, threat visualization (with a detailed threat report), and extra time
• PGN import and export functionality
• A public leaderboard ranking signed-in players by a difficulty-weighted score
• Statistics tracking and move-by-move Game Analysis (available with Chess Pi Premium)
• Integration with Pi Network for sign-in and for all payment features described in Section 4

3. User Account

Chess Pi does not have its own username/password account system. You may play certain content for free without signing in. To save your progress across sessions, appear on the leaderboard, or use any paid feature, you must sign in with your Pi Network account through the Pi Network app/SDK. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Pi Network account and for all activity that occurs under it while using our Application.

4. Payment and Refund Policy

• Refill: restores your hints, undos, threat visualizations, and extra-time uses once fully depleted — $0.006 per refill
• Individual unlocks: difficulty levels, board themes, piece sets, and bot personalities — $0.70 each, unlocked permanently once purchased
• Bundle unlocks: all remaining items in a category at once, for 15% off the combined individual price
• Chess Pi Premium: unlocks every level, theme, piece set, bot personality, plus Statistics and Game Analysis, for as long as the subscription is active — $0.50 for 30 days (Monthly) or $4.00 for 365 days (Yearly)
• Starter Offer: a discounted introductory path to Premium for eligible players who have never purchased Monthly or Yearly Premium — two consecutive 30-day cycles at a fixed price of 0.5 π then 1.5 π; after both cycles, regular Premium pricing applies

• All payments are processed and finalized through the Pi Network platform
• All payments are final and non-refundable, including subscription payments for time remaining if you stop using the Application before a subscription period ends
• We reserve the right to modify pricing, introduce, or discontinue paid features (including the Starter Offer) at any time, with reasonable notice where practical
• You are responsible for any taxes applicable to your transactions

5. Fair Play and the Leaderboard

The leaderboard is intended to reflect genuine games played against the Application's own chess engine. By using this feature, you agree to:

• Not use external engines, bots, or other automated assistance to generate moves submitted as your own results
• Not attempt to manipulate, spoof, or replay game results, scores, or payment confirmations
• Accept that we may remove leaderboard entries, revoke unlocked content, or suspend access to paid features for accounts found to be manipulating game results or payments

6. User Obligations

By using Chess Pi, you agree to:

• Use the Application only for lawful purposes
• Not attempt to disrupt or compromise the security of the Application, including probing for or exploiting vulnerabilities in our servers or serverless functions
• Not use the Application to harass, abuse, or harm others, including through your leaderboard username
• Not use automated systems or scripts to access the Application, submit scores, or initiate payments
• Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as Pi Network's own terms of service

7. Intellectual Property

The Chess Pi application, including its design, code, and unique features, is the intellectual property of the application developers. The chess engine incorporates the chess.js library and a Stockfish-based engine under their respective licenses.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer any part of the Application without explicit permission.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Application is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

• The Application will meet your specific requirements
• The Application will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
• The results from using the Application will be accurate or reliable
• Any errors in the Application will be corrected
• The Pi price shown for any feature will remain constant, since Pi/USD-referenced prices are calculated at the current market rate at the time of purchase

9. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Chess Pi or its developers be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, Pi cryptocurrency, or use, whether in an action in contract, tort, or otherwise, arising out of or in any way connected with the use of or inability to use the Application, including any loss connected to Pi Network's own platform, wallet, or payment processing.

10. Third-Party Services

Chess Pi integrates with and uses the following third-party services:

• Pi Network, for sign-in and for processing all Pi cryptocurrency payments
• chess.js library and a Stockfish-based chess engine for game logic and analysis
• i18next for internationalization
• Font Awesome for icons
• Netlify, for application hosting, serverless functions, and data storage

Your use of these third-party services may be subject to their respective terms and policies. In particular, all Pi cryptocurrency transactions are subject to Pi Network's own terms of service.

11. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. We will provide notice of significant changes through the Application or via email if available. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the application developers reside, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
